Biography

I grew up in Bellevue, WA and got my undergraduate education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA where I met my wonderful wife, Christine. While we loved the Pacific Northwest, we wanted to get out and see more of the country so we decided to go first to New England as I pursued my masters and then to the Deep South for my doctorate. It has been quite the adventure, though New Orleans has a special place in our hearts because we acquired the newest member of our family there: Aethon, a labrador mix with a heart of gold.

Contrary to popular belief about doctoral students, I do have interests outside my (admittedly pretty fun) studies. Day hikes, live music, video games, literature, playing the piano and dramatic television shows are all activities that I thoroughly enjoy. However, my two brightest passions are history, especially ancient and modern, and board games. As long as I have access to a library and a few willing board game partners, I'm happy.
